Jackie Robinson's Life in Baseball
Jackie Robinson began his baseball career with the Kansas City Monarchs. Even though he did outstanding he thought about quiting due to the low pay. Also he didn't think he was going to have a career in baseball. Before he quit Jackie Robinson met Branch Rickey, general manager of the Brooklyn Dodgers, who decided to give Jackie Robinson a chance in the major leagues. First Jackie Robinson would first have to go to the Montreal Royals, the Dodgers' top farm club, for one season. After that Jackie Robinson played for the Brooklyn Dodgers as the first African-American major league player. That same year, he was named Rookie of the Year. Playing mostly second base, he led his team to six World Series appearances and won the 1956 World Series.
Most people don't realize how hard it was for Jackie Robinson. For example,in Robinson's first thirty-seven games with the Dodgers, he was hit with six pitches(more than any player playing a 154 game schedule). He also received a lot of hate mail and death threats. In the end he became very famous and was placed into the baseball Hall of Fame in 1962 and his number was put to rest in loving memory of Jackie Robinson.
