Jackie Robinson's Military Life
Jackie Robinson was drafted into the military in 1942 soon after he started playing for the Honolulu Bears. He was a private during World War II even though he never saw any action there.He was stationed in Fort Riley, Kansas. He went to Officers Candidate School after getting rejected once and graduated later on with the help of Joe Louis as a second lieutenant.Shortly after this he was re-assigned to Fort Hood, Texas. He was discharged from the army after refusing to move to the back of the bus that was taking him to a hospital for an examination in November 1944.
