Branch Rickey's Importance to Jackie Robinson
Most people might not realize that if it were not for Branch Rickey, Jackie Robinson wouldn't be as famous and might have chosen a different path for his career. Also, Branch Rickey had actually had a scheme to get an African-American into major league baseball. He made this scheme because when he used to coach at Ohio Wesleyan in 1904 ,his African-American player was not allowed in a hotel and had to share a room with Branch Rickey. The African-American player started blaming himself for what happened. Branch Rickey started working himself to the top of the Brooklyn Dodgers as general manager. Then, he actually sent out scouts looking for an African-American who was good, able to keep his temper, and didn't drink. Jackie Robinson's name came up many times in the scouts' lists. So, Branch Rickey gave Jackie Robinson a chance and it was a good decision. You have to give a little credit to Branch Rickey for giving Jackie Robinson a chance to change history forever.
